Did anyone notice tonight during the NCAA Selection show the ticker on the top of the screen promoting their tournament challenge and the This TV multicast? And how it was in 16:9 and the screen wasn't cut down to 4:3 like it has been in the past?

Hopefully this leads to progress as far as the station getting their syndicated shows in HD, but it's a good sign.

Only if they clean up their bandwidth issues.
This last weekends conference tournament games (via OTA) still had that in-and-out of focus problem from time to time. It was just annoying on 58-1, but on 58-2 it was nearly unwatchable.

$50 says this was generated by the HD LIDIA graphic inserter (http://www.broadcast.harris.com/productsandsolutions/MasterControlBranding/CBSLIDIAVIconLogoSystem.asp) that all CBS affiliates have to place the CBS logo on the screen and stuff.
As the product page shows, it does have the capability to display news crawls, weather crawls, and school closings in HD. Obviously, WDJT has not configured theirs for this (and, knowing them, might not be able/want to). Apparently, they have the ticker portion working now, so it's a sign of progress.
It does appear though, that the newscast time/temp bug appears to be generated from the LIDIA, as well as the top-of-the-hour ID logo.
Fact of the now: a good amount of their production equipment is older than the news operation (I'd bet some of it's older than the station). HD news is a ways away.
