This whole "HDTV trying to acheive critical mass" thing is giving me a feeling of Deja Vu... Having been an early adopter with the PC, E-mail, the Internet, Wireless Web, etc., I remember seeing this diagram:

Maybe my dislike for MS "solutions" comes into play here, but why doesn't the early adopter want technology, performance, convenience, and solutions? I sure hope HD stays where it is or HD generation 2 comes soon. I'm not all that pleased with the way DVD production is now catered to the wishes of ignorant Walmart execs than the movie/TV fans that purchase the product. Based on the opinions I hear, I assume that the same people who complain about "black bars" will do so again once they get a WS set and pop in their old DVDs. Why not do it the right way the first time? Walmart only cares about being able to double sell the same product to those uneducated on the geometrical reasons for the "black bars." (or gray)
