I've been a D* subscriber since 2000 and never had any problems or issues up until about a month ago when I started hearing noise on my phone line. AT&T came by and basically said it was my satellite recievers and said to disconnect them. Once the phone line is disconnected from the back of the receivers, problem solved. No more noise. My question is, has anyone ever had this issue and why did it happen now?

That is odd indeed... although I haven't had my satellite boxes plugged into my phone lines in years.
Do you have DSL?

I have RR. If I leave the phone line disconnected, I keep getting a message that says I haven't made a successful call in ## days. So I guess my question would be, do I even need the phone line connected? The few times I spoke with a D* CSR, they said it needs to be connected in order to download the guide. Is this true?

I do not have my current D* boxes connected to a phone line. I don't have a hard line to start with. I do have my HR20 connected to the internet.
When I was a D* before I never had all the boxes hooked up to a phone line either. The guide info downloads fine. The only thing you can't do is order pay per view channels.
I would tend to think that maybe the receiver went bad. If you have more then one box I would swap one for the other and see what happens. Something also could have happened to the wiring or the jack/termination.
See what happens if you move them around.

The next firmware/software update will support ethernet for feedback and ordering to DirecTV.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did disconnect all phone lines from all the receivers (5 in all), and problem was solved. Unfortunately, each time I added one back, the noise came back. And of course, with all 5 connected, noise was at its worst. I suppose as long as I know I don't need the phone lines connected, then I'll leave it as is. It's just odd that all of a sudden this happened.
On a side note, I have noticed AT&T vans outside my house (off of Moorland Rd. in New Berlin) quite frequently in the last few months. I wonder if this has anything to do with it, but like I said, AT&T says it's my equipment, not my phone line.
