View Full Version : TWC HD Box shortage

Had enrolled myself on the waiting list with TWC for their HD DVR
Been more than 2.5 weeks now and no call yet from them
Kind of frustrating (as I cannot get either of the Ds' as my home does not have a clear sight to the south)
Was wondering if anyone in the recent past got their HD DVRs from TWC and would like to know when they had ordered and what was the waiting time like?

If you already have cable service coming to your house, you could try going to one of their stores, like the one in Mayfair Mall, and seeing if they have any available there. Then all you have to to is pick one up, bring it home, hook it up (instructions are included), and call the activation number found on the sticker on the front of your box.

The Mayfair store's direct line is 1-866-892-6007, call them before you leave to see if they have any boxes available there.

I got another one (my second) about 10 days ago (Tuesday before the SuperBowl I think...or something like that). I was not planning on having two 8300HDs but then I broke down, called and got my name on the list. It was a little over a week before they called me.

Oh Yes!! Have got a digital cable and tried twice going to the Mayfair mall to get the box swapped..The answer is the same every time.. 'You would get a call from our TWC and you would have to wait until then!!' - And the call hasn't come yet!!
Perhaps visit another office? (Gave it a thought, but do not want to pile on my frustration more)

OK..herz the latest..Got the HD DVR after exactly 4 weeks wait.. And that happened after I called up Mayfair to check out why the delay..so folks who are waiting for more than couple of weeks..suggest you call up Mayfair directly and talk to them!!

my 8000HD died three weeks ago, so I called mayfair to see if i could pick one up there.

I was told the wait might be as long as April.

SO, I said "you mean my box died and I have to wait nearly 8 weeks to watch tv again?"

Then she was like, "oh you need a replacement?, we have 8300HD's in stock, just bring your old unit in.

So, at least they are taking care of their current customers.

im wondering how long the new customers who ordered that box have to wait. Had it installed 2 thurs. ago, and still no call. Was told on the phone when i called a couple days ago that it should be any time now.

They're waiting for U-Verse to get to more of the Milwaukee areas and then they'll have an influx of 8300HD boxes. :D

Hey everybody,

I am on the waiting list for a HD DVR, and after a week and a half I decided to call customer service and see if it was possible to bring my non-HD DVR into the Mayfair office to replace with an HD DVR. Initially the rep told me there was a waiting list, then put me on hold, and she said that they had them in the Mayfair office to swap.

I went home, disconnected my box (you can see where this is going), went to Mayfair, only to be told that they don't have any and that there is a waiting list....

So, it is better to wait then to believe what they tell you.

Did you call TWC's standard customer service number, or did you call the Mayfair Store at 1-866-892-6007? The general customer service reps never know what's available in the actual stores, so don't waste your time going there unless you've actually talked to someone at the store.

Another 4 days gone by.....and still no HD-DVR receiver. Glad they told me that it would be coming any day. :bang:
Then i started reading a thread saying that these boxes freeze up and reboot......is that still a problem or has that been fixed???? otherwise:bang:

Sometimes it's fixed, sometimes it's not. It seems to alternate with different software updates. Usually once it freezes and reboots, you're good for the rest of the day. But not always. No DVR is perfect, and you really can't be too mad about it considering the minimal investment these boxes require.

Yesterday I sent TWC a detailed email about this problem... can't hurt.

And we'll assume that's the case until you stop complaining. If you feel like sitting on hold, call TWC and let them know how unhappy you are, or write them a strongly worded letter. Are they currently charging you for DVR service? If so, you should've contacted them long ago to have the charge removed. If not... either sit down and be patient (and stop spamming this thread with your complaining), because this is how monopolies operate... or go to one of the dish services, and have fun with the upfront charges and even worse customer service. People have waited much longer than you for boxes.

Peace out.

My brother was put on the list a little over a week ago and called the Southridge store last Saturday and they said they had a bunch in stock that just arrived.
They told him that they didn't have time to call everyone to come and pick them up so
he just went to the store and they gave him one.

Hey everybody,

Sorry I wasn't complete. I did call the number that was listed in this forum. I just wanted to post my experience so that someone else doesn't go through what I had to go through to today.

First of all pal, im not spamming this thread. The thread is "TWC HD Box Shortage" and im letting this thread know that i still dont have one.....sounds like it belongs here to me. Secondly, no im not being charged the DVR fee. I just find it funny that this thread is here to let people know about the shortage, and you're telling me to stop. Until they send me a box, i will continue to express my dislike for them. I think people who are considering going with TWC have the right to know that when they sign up for service, they should not expect to receive a box for a long time.

I'm by no means ganging up on Mark, but seeing as though your complaints seem to be confined to this thread, there is nothing wrong.

Ok I have visited this site for a couple of years now and never expected to see people getting bashed for posting about the topic the thread is about. I dont see how you consider what he is posting, spam. Anyway, I think there are problems with each company no matter who you subscribe to. In my past 3 years of HD experience, my best luck has been with Dish Network. I have had small problems with them in the past, but nothing that could not be fixed. Time Warner however tons of problems. So I just stuck with what worked best for me. I do feel Jmoran posting about his experience with TW is a legit thing to post about. {cheers}

Okay let's put this to bed...I've found nothing wrong going on here or I would have deleted the post and moderated the posters. Myself and the other Mods/Admin would've done something.....Let's just get on with business other than the comments of the last few posts this thread is totally acceptable.

Maybe I'm in the wrong. Here's the only reason I felt it was getting close to spamming the thread.

Post 3 was basically a copy of post 1, doesn't add anything to the thread except to remind us of your misery. I feel for ya, I've had to deal with a lot of annoying customer service people lately, but except for a cable service tech and a few local network techs, not too much you post here will have an actual effect on the speed of TWC getting a box to you. I wish it did, but it won't. I think as long as we're going to be complainers, lets be informative complainers. That post provided no update on your situation, no update on something TWC told you and then didn't follow through on... I might've even not cared if it was a funny line. It just felt so unnecessary.

I don't know... if you disagree, don't mind me, just move along. Not like I deleted the post or anything.

Just got the box yesterday. and well, first of all, TWC has these boxes. They have a bunch of them. If you're a current customer and want the hd dvr box, threaten to drop them.

As for the box itself, there is no sound out of the HDMI jack. So now im using component video with the optical going to my AV receiver and analog cords going to the tv. Going to record some stuff, we'll see how it goes with the whole (freezing and rebooting) situation.

Have you changed the setting on the box to tell it to use HDMI Audio? I'm not positive to where it is but if you go through the menu there is an audio setting you've gotta change to HDMI.

yeah i've read in the book and heard from people on here who said theres supposed to be an audio output option that you should be able to switch from optical to hdmi, but i for some reason dont see it. I see the video output option, but no audio.

Told you, Heather should have her own HD DVR or least another HD box with the older HDTV set and in the beginning you didn't want to do it.

But now, you see why I have 3 of them, one for each HDTV.:D

not really sure....when they called to say they "were in", they said "you were approved, and your box is in."......im thinkin to myself....approved?!?!?!?WTF. But even when i got there, she didnt even know which HD box i was getting, i had to tell her the HD-DVR one, and then request one with the HDMI jack.
