View Full Version : What are your favorite TV shows this season?

I thought this might be a fun subject... after all this is a tv forum!
At this moment, my favorite shows would have to be Heroes on NBC and Dexter on Showtime.
Heroes is just fantastic... sharp writing, great characters, and it achieves moments of excitement, intrigue, and suspense that even shows like 24 don't touch. Definitely my favorite show right now, and I'm glad it's found success.
Dexter... what can I say. Michael C. Hall is an amazing actor, and he proves it once again with this show. Extremely cutting edge (pun intended) and unapologetically dark, this is yet another great show you'd never dream of seeing on network tv. (Shows where the characters are very dark, like Smith, tend to not do well in the network ratings, no matter how good they are.)
Other choices would be Entourage on HBO, and Weeds on Showtime, however both of those are in-between seasons right now. Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip on NBC started out very strong, but it's simply gone downhill since. Aaron Sorkin has let the worst tendencies of his writing style come thru, which ends up coming across as extremely pretentious... talking down to the viewer, constantly trying to prove how "smart" he can be. Also, Amanda Peet couldn't act her way out of an invisible paper bag.
Smallville so far has been a bit disappointing... however it's nothing compared to how much Gilmore Girls has let me down. I can no longer defend my mancard for liking the show... it's been gutted of almost everything that made it a great show (Amy Sherman and Daniel Palladino both left the writing staff). The hyper-reality speech style is now just there for the sake of making them talk fast, without anything truly clever or any smart pop culture references; and the characters are doing things completely outside of the personalities the show has spent 6 seasons exploring. (These problems started towards the middle of the 6th season, and now the Palladino's have left a mess for the leftover subpar writing staff to clean up.) I'm done with it.

Since I only watch two shows on TV, I guess they must be considered my "favorite" shows for the season :D
Too bad only one of them is in HD...

Heros and Jericho on Network TV.
Battlestar Galactica and Dr. Who.
(Thank God for DVR's as I was up at the cottage on Friday and didn't miss SCIFI, now if they would only go HD)

I agree on Battlestar Galactica, but I'm not watching the new season until it airs on UniversalHD. :D

I only watch a few things this season.
Battlestar Gallactica
Dr Who
The Daily Show
12 News from 6:00 AM - 6:30 AM
I started watching Hero's and have kept up with it on SciFi, but if it got cancelled, I'd not care at all. It's too soap operaish for my tastes.
I also record most stand up comedy on Comedy Central.
Other than that, I watch mostly DVD's. So much for all the HDTV equipment I invested in! :(
My wife on the other hand ... she records all the "popular" crap shows.

Jericho is the only new show that stuck this season. We're still CSI and Lost fans... can't believe that next week is the season fianal of Lost already!
We always try to give new series on HBO and Showtime a shot... Tried to get into Dexter on Showtime, but it's just way too dark for us.

Heroes and Studio 60 are the only new shows this season that I watch. Both are very good. Everything else I watch is a carryover from last season (Veronica Mars, ER, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition).

Once you edit out the commercials, its amazing how fast you can zip through them.
Half the shows we won't even start watching until after the season is over. Then we actually have stuff to watch during the summer.

... can't believe that next week is the season finale of Lost already!
It is hard to believe. Didn't the season just start a week or two ago? I gotta say that actors and actresses don't seem to work much when they are in Hawaii......

It's the FALL season finale for Lost. Too many people complained last year that Lost ran a few new shows then had repeats, then came back to new, back to repeats. This year they changed it to 8 straight new eps. then go on hiatus til after the new year. Then we' ll have nothing but new eps til the season ends.

Wow...no one mentioned Supernatural ?? I am hooked on the show. The brothers play off each other so excellently.
Also:
Battlestar Galactica...probably the best show on TV
Dr Who...been watching since the early eighties..Tom Baker is still the MAN !!
Smallville...getting tired of this though...want to tell Clark Kent "SHUT UP ALREADY AND BECOME SUPERMAN!!!"
Ghost Hunters

Wow...no one mentioned Supernatural ?? I am hooked on the show. The brothers play off each other so excellently.I'll second that nomination. Unfortunately, this show is flying under too many people's radar. The writing is very good, and the two actors have really good chemistry. As a bonus, one of the creators is from Wisconsin, so we've seen at least three Wisconsin-based stories, which is pretty cool.
In addition to Supernatural:
The Office (funniest show on TV)
Lost (still watching, even though the show has been going downhill since the first season)
King of the Hill (coming back soon)
King of Queens (coming back soon)
Survivor
Ghost Hunters
Sadly, I didn't find any new shows I liked this season.

New Shows
Heroes - same day viewing - Best network show around!!
Jericho - bad acting, iffy story line, but for some reason I am still watching
Existing Shows:
Battlestar Galactica - Truly excellent
Boston Legal - Humorous diversion
My Name is Earl - Can this show get any more ludicrous? Hugely funny.
The Office - Not a good as Earl but it still has its moments...

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Stuff I am watching but I am getting bored with:
Lost

HEROES
THE OFFICE
CSI (LV)
LAS VEGAS
DESPARATE HOUSEWIVES
LAW AND ORDER
Heroes is a totally awsome program. I can't wait to find out what happens next each week. Too bad this show seems to have a definite lifespan. After the whole "big event", where will they be able to go with it???
I watch a lot of Law and Order, but it's an iffy series (all of them). Some episodes are good, while others end up being a waste of time.
My girlfriend HATES the office. She doesn't get the humor and can't stand the show. I get a lot of dirty looks when I watch it.
I used to really like Nip/Tuck on FX but the show has jumped the shark and is basically pretty stupid now.

Here's what I try not to miss at all:
Simpsons
American Dad
Family Guy
Heroes
Boston Legal
South Park
Lost
Earl
Office
Packer Football
Soon, new Scrubs episodes will be coming (Nov. 30 I hear), so that can be added to my list.
The Office and Boston Legal are my 2 favorite shows followed closely by South Park.
