Hello,

Does anyone know what the schedule is for 18.1 coming back on the air. They have been off now for a half week.
Thanks

18-1 is off until further notice. Can't transmit without an antenna.

Look for a temporary 24-3 for the near future. This will be removed once channel 61 (18-1) is back on the air.

Is there any chance that WVTV will be back on the air before the debut of The CW Network?

I mean I know they are on 24-3, but not in HD.

The antenna is currently at the factory undergoing evaluation. And yes, there is a chance. Much depends upon what the factory recommends.

I know it's too early to really plan for such an eventuality, but if it DOESN'T get repaired... would it be possible to flip-flop 18 and 24? That is, shift the antenna currently used to broadcast 24.1 - 24.3 to instead broadcast 18.1, and move 24 and The Tube to subchannels 18.2 and 18.3 instead?

Otherwise... is it possible to give a sub-channel more bandwidth than a main channel?

I think it can be safely argued that of the two, The CW is really much, MUCH more important than MyNetworkTV... and I think just about everyone can live without seeing MyNetwork in HD (if it even intends to broadcast HD in the first place). However, if I don't get to see Veronica Mars in HD in the fall, I will have to hurt someone. ;)

The antennas in use for channels 25 & 61 are frequency/channel specific. You can’t swap one for the other, but I know what you are getting at.
The antenna will get repaired/replaced.

Thanks for the continued updates... would be nice if this board hadn't scared off/annoyed off all the other station representatives, and if they would be as active as you are. :)

Well... I don't see any posting here, except Jimboy, and I think they have in the past.
Based on the tone of many of the postings here (not particularly friendly), if I were a station representative, I wouldn't want to be posting here either. *shrug* Apologies if I'm being a bit harsh, but it's what I feel every time I read some of the posts on this board. :(

In any case, I was just trying to thank Jimboy for his continued posting to this board, that's all. :)

But as you notice there hasn't been any 'bad' comments made about how your (WCGV/WVTV) station goes about the business of doing HD and digital. You respond to incorrect information on this forum and set us all straight... :) Unlike some other stations who just don't give a hoot about any of the people on this forum. I think that's why it easier to cross the courtesy line with them. Just my .02 cents worth. We should all follow the rules .. sometimes it just too easy to say what is on our mind before running it thru a filter of some sort :) .

So, any recommendations from the factory?

I don't intend to imply that someone is dragging their heels or anything (hoest, no offense intended), but would it really be taking this long if the antenna was zapped in the On-Season? It's almost been a month now...

Updates? ETA?

The antenna is comprised of three section. The middle and lower sections are toast and are currently being repaired (lead time is about three weeks). The upper section may be sent back earlier and re-installed at reduced power but I haven't heard if that's going to happen yet.

And yes it probaby would take this long if it were the "On" season too.
Of course if the digital channel were the moneymaker I'm sure the :guns: would've come out by now.

Hey, as long as it is up and running before the network changeover in September.

For now, 24-3 is OK for watching reruns. Not as good as HD, but at least there is something on the screen :D

The antenna arrives today (7/31/06) and will be re-installed.
Barring any major setbacks the earliest 18-1 will be back on is Wednesday or Thursday this week.

I think you guys will want to wait until Thursday to re-install it. Its TOO HOT right now, and Thunderstorms are forecasted for Wednesday. Its suppose to be sunny and 78 on Thursday.

Hide the antenna for now so that the Thunderstorm on Wednesday doesn't touch it to create another havoc.

I want to see WVTV broadcasting in HD by the date of the debut of "CW 18" on September 18th.

Too late, it's back on the tower. {storm}
Still need to check the whole system out before the juice is applied.

Any idea yet if the source bitrate on The CW will be any higher than The WB's approx 13mbps?

The choice was made (by the CW) to use UPN's method of delivery vs. the WB's.
CBS currently distributes UPN and will supply the CW when they start. I'll have to double check but I believe the source video bitrate is around 39Mbps.

Thanks for the info Jimboy. It's really great that a station takes the effort to keep it's viewers informed. Keep up the good work. :D
