Received this from Earl Arbuckle, from Fox in New York regarding my inability to pick up 6 Digital up here in G'Town:

Well, the DTC-100 is a fine receiver, but you nailed it when you described your antenna. Unfortunately (in so far as actual reception is concerned), the FCC requirement is pretty feeble at 41 dbu OVER THE CITY OF LICENSE; this is not usable with an indoor antenna. With our lashup, we are using a directional antenna, since Brown Deer is well north of Milwaukee. We are putting out better than 16 kilowatts toward Milwaukee, but you are off the side of the antenna in Germantown, so the effective power in your direction is only about 570 watts. You are just inside the 41 dBu contour (actually right on the 48 dBu contour), but you have very little signal to deal with and would need a high gain yagi mounted on your rooftop to obtain solid reception. You might find the attached plot interesting. Also note where we got at least one viewer report from Menomenee Falls (rooftop antenna). [Actually, we got one report from a viewer in SW Chicago, but that was due to atmospherics ;-)]

Gee and I have a high gain antenna with a preamp up 50' on a tower in Cedarburg right at the edge of the 48dBu contour...so explain that I can't receive the signal with the DTC 100 or HiDTV Pro 2.0.

I also notice there is only "1" viewer reporting solid reception........

(PS it looks like to me that G'town is in the 48dBu contour.)

I am right on the border. I still doubt that there's any chance that'll be able to pick it up, but with the leaves gone in the woods behind my house, maybe a little adjustment will get me a signal, although I have it on good authority that they won't be passing through network 16:9 till December... so I won't be too broken hearted if I can't (for now at least).

So I assume this to mean that they are officially not meeting the FCC requirement at this time. I am right dead center of their required coverage area and less than 7 miles away and I cannot get a 1/100 with either community or indoor antenna. Time for another report to the FCC. I have no problems with any station but Fox.

Ever since WISN went online I can't get WITI anymore, and I used to get it at 100% on the Hughes E86.

Maybe they should redo there grid now that WISN is up and running.

According to Earl, the FCC requirement is only a 41 dbu OVER THE CITY OF LICENSE. In this case, it literally is the city of Milwaukee and nothing more. The coverage map shows that they even exceed that. Appaerntly there is no actaul field strength measuremnt requirement either, so just by producing this map to the FCC I think they satisfy their legal requirement.

However, in truth, the low power and the low height probably means lots of holes. So until they get up on the big stick with their full authorized power (or get their signal passed through TWC), many of us will be out of luck.

Why don't they just draw a map claiming to cover the entire US and Canada? If it doesn't need to be factual then what is the point of the FCC BS?

Where did they get this map. Rugby Junction? Kirchhayn? Meeker? Victory Center? I lived here all my life and I've somehow missed these garden spots. Are they mythical places like the claimed coverage??

Boy have you lived a sheltered life, all these unincorporated crossings have been on the maps for years and they even have signage when you drive through. By the way the church I go to is in Kirchhayn.

What channel do they transmit on? anyone know? 33 or 35? The "theory" with DTV is that the stations can transmit on adjacent channels 33, 34, 35 etc.... I have seen lommox post several reports where adjacent channels are blowing each other off the air, even wreaking havoc on analog channels too. WITI-DT is on channel 33 and WISN-DT is on channel 34...however the problem I don't think is adjacent channel but is harmonically related as the WISN-DT isn't degrading the receiver it is WTMJ-DT on channel 28. This has always been a problem at night but now that WTMJ is on full time it makes it impossible for even me to receive WITI-DT in Cedarburg and I will remind you that it doesn't matter with either of my receivers they react the same. Plus I have a high gain antenna at 50' with a preamp and one at 35' without a preamp and they both are unable now to receive WITI-DT.

Late next summer, when reinforcement of our tower is completed, we will move the transmitter and antenna to our main tower on Capital Dr. and broadcast from 900' above ground. It may have been imitation "Enhanced Definition", but it did not look stretched to me. Now that they understand the aspect ratio bit, hopefully they can figure out the "Enhanced Definition" part.

I live in Cedarburg at the corner of Madison & Cleveland. We have an antenna on the roof and a DTC-100. I get a signal strength of 24 for 6-1.
