From time to time, I see members posting that this or that station is broadcasting at a specific level of power. Is there a link that one can go to, to obtain current power output levels for stations in the Milwaukee/ Madison area? FCC? I have just installed my outside antenna and I am trying to determine which stations I should target on to try to pick up. Last (first) night, I picked up channel 28 great from Lake Geneva (approx. 60 miles). I will work on the rest this week but wanted to focus on higher power stations in aiming my antenna.
Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,
Here is a kind of neat site to start with. It does not give power levels, but if you enter your zip code it will show you what stations are around, and which direction to point your antenna.

If you go to http://www.fcc.gov/mb/video/tvq.html
you can look up any station and get the information on their operating parameters. If you go through everything and the actual license is in order (not like channel 6's) you'll find all kinds of interesting info. WISN 12 (34) has an STA to run only 251. kW ERP
WDJT 58 (46) has an STA to run 11.7 kW ERP
WTMJ 4(28) is licensed to 1000 kW ERP
WMVS 10(8) is licensed to 25.1 kW ERP
So you can look up anything, just don't stop at the main page of the license you have to look at all the files.

Thanks for the replys.
Looking at Greg's numbers, it is no wonder I get channel 28 (althought I couldn't pick it up last night). Maybe , I'll be able to pick up channel 34, but do you agee I'll never pick up Channels 8 & 46 at those low levels from out here? The levels are temporary...right? Some day in the future my great-grand kids will be able to watch HDTV. Grin

Hi Ron,
Channel 8 is running at full power, Ch 46 is not. With a Radio Shack VU-110 antenna I was abale to pick up Channel 28 and 8 last fall in Harvard IL. I would say that you might need to work on antenna aiming.

Thanks Dave!
Channel 8 would be VHF, right? I may have shot myself in the foot by installing a UHF antenna and preamp only, but I liked the small size which pleased my wife and neighbors. Decisions, decisions... any ideas? BTW, Anybody need a R/S double bowtie-NIB at cost ($10)?

Group,
Found the following link which gives Power levels and one click FCC links for each Milwaukee station: http://www.tvradioworld.com/region1/wi/tv_information.asp?m=mil

Yes, PBS's DTV (channel 8) is VHF. But I find I receive it just fine with a "UHF only" antenna. There is a continuum between VHF and UHF, especially above channel 6 (or is it 5?), rather than an either-or situation.

Me too, I get channel 8 just fine up in Mequon with just the RS Bowtie.
