I have an RCA Hd Receiver ( DTC 210). The TV is Sony KP 46WT500.I would like to add a non hd tivo, to the system. No, I do not care if it recordes in a non hd format. I just want to be able to record one program while watching another.
I await your collective expertise

Since you have a RCA DTC 210 I'm going to assume you have DirecTV. Therefore, the HD STB via DVI and the DirecTivo via s-video and use your remote to switch between inputs.

How many more lines from the dish do you have to run to use a seprate TIVO DVR? If you do add a D* TIVO won't you have to pay D* $5 for the TIVO service and $5 for an extra box fee? Would it be possible to use a genaric (ie not D* specific) TIVO with D*? I've seen these boxes on ebay relativly cheap, but will they work on a D* system without a card?

I see you have an 3 LNB dish. I am assuming it has a built in 4 way multiswitch. Each DTV receiver uses one input, each DirecTivo uses two. If you were to replace a standard receiver with a DirecTivo it would only cost you $5 more per month. I believe you can use a regular Tivo with DTV but there are disadvantages. First, a regular Tivo only has one tuner( what you record is what you have to watch) where as a DirecTivo has dual tuners. Secondly, a standalone Tivo costs, I believe, $14 per month, where as, the DirecTivo is only $5 per month.
