I was out doing some errands and stopped at Flanners Saturday afternoon to see how good HD football game is(CBS SEC game). I ask one of the salesmen to turn to the game and I was very disappointed to say the least. From my vantage point it wasn't much better then analog. Further more, they had HDnet feeds going on the TV's next to game I was watching and there simply was no comparison. Now the salesman told me that CBS broadcasts in 4:3 HD which is converted and not as good a quality at native 16:9HD.

So now I'm confussed. I've read how the PQ of these games are great yet I was looking at a dog. Is it possible that the salesman put on analog 58 instead of digital 58? Did anybody else see this game? I've being gearing up for a Samsung SIR-T151 but now I'm having second thoughts.

Sounds like either that game was in SD not HD or they had it on 58 analog...I've watched games on both 1-1 (58) and HDNET and they are superb. When CBS does a game in HD it is 1080i 16:9, they don't do 4:3 HD.

Thanks lummox. I was a bit skeptical when the guy said CBS was doing 4:3 and left the store thinking this salesman had made a mistake. Not the best scenario for Flanners. They're not going to sell a lot of HD setups with what they showed me on Saturday. It's a shame.

That salesman was full of it. The game was 16:9 and was gorgeous. Commercials and one camera (on the roof, for special effects) were not 16:9.

I agree with Lummox, he probably tuned channel 5 analog.

Don't let this "salesman" fool you. I have recently discovered an insidious plot by the owners of FAUX 6 and other counter-revolutionaries (as posted in a thread elsewhere, TWC recently attempted an anti-HD strike against yours truly) to dissuade consumers from upgrading to HDTV. This man is clearly in the employ of those who would not let the world see things in resolution greater than 480i.

We must not let them win.

Salesman or agent of the dark forces aligned against HDTV? You decide.

The guy probably tuned in to 58 on the satellite, and not 58-1 OTA. That is the only thing I could think would explaine how you saw it in such a crappy mode.
