New to the group but I was wondering if anyone here lived south of Milwaukee. I live in Racine and just got into HD. I have a rooftop antenna but no STB. I do get HD from TWC but I wondered if I would be able to get any of the HD via OTA this far south.

Onanboy, What stations do you get in HD on TW Cable? Is channel 4 or 12 available yet?
Thanks

Channel 4 in a few days! 12 Next month!
I guess I did it at the right time.
I was going to get Direct TV with the $500 box but I thought I would give TW a chance.
So I might be seeing ER in HD. I haven't watched it in a while but I will if it's in HDTV.
Actually I haven't seen anything in HDTV yet!
Are they going to be on the regular channels?

Sorry, Excited newbie!

Via TWC digital cable I only get

PBS HD
HBO
Showtime

The PBS stuff is pretty mind-blowing but tends to be pretty repetitive. Watching "The Soprano's" in HD is a treat though.

I want to take advantage of the OTA stuff because I have the attenna anyway but I just got the RPTV and it may be awhile before my wife allows the $600+ STB for OTA. I may try to look for a used one but I wanted to check if the reception would be there if I did.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have learned tons since I stumbled across this forum.

Paul

They've annouced channel 4's digital will be on 704, so I'm guessing 12's will be on 712.

Akitakoi,

Do not forget, that in order to get HD from TWC you will need to get the Scientific Atlanta 3100HD box from TW.

If you have regular digital cable from TW now, them this box will simple replace your standard def box. The cost of rental is the same.

If you are currenly on analog cable, then you will need to move to the digital tier and get one of their set top boxes - all of which cost extra.

Actually, in my last cable bill, they stated channel 4 HD would be on 504.

Onanboy,

Like Rees, I also live in the Racine area and get the same stations that he does with relatively few issues and very infrequent dropouts. I also have a very similar antenna setup to Rees'.

I'm getting Digital from TW today, with the HD box. I've had regular cable without a box for a few years.
OK so, channel 4 is on either 504 or 704
how about PBS, Showtime and HBO HD?

Do the HD channels appear on the guide channel?

PBS HD is on 710
HBO HD is on 721
SHOW HD is on 731 (I may have mixed up HBO and Showtime)

All the channels are on the channel guide.

Anyone here have a Hitachi SWX20B RPTV?

Also can anyone recomend a good ISF calibrator in the area?

I have this Yamaha:

http://yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/DsplyModel/?gAVR00010HTR-5280

I like it quite a bit. I got it last year at Best Buy. So far it has had enough digital audio inputs for me, and I also like the fact that it could provide an extra component video input for me if necessary. The power seems adequate, as I have never found a volume level that would stress it out. The natural sound is nice, and requires no equalization in my opinion. The D/A converter seems nice too. It even works good for taking the digital audio signal from my Panasonic DVD-Audio player. I also like the 6.1 decoding for Dolby Digital and DTS. The phantom rear center speaker works well.

I can't comment on their speakers or anything. I use Klipsch speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer, no Yamaha on that end.

Good luck,

Starving

Well, The cable guy said all the HD box's were gone, more came in today. I will go swap box's tonight.
I ended up with a JVC receiver RX-9010UBK, a JVC XV-s500BK PS DVD, HTM MX500 Remote and Acoustic Research 6 speaker system.
Got everything set up except the rear speakers (gota run some wire).
The front L&R are the large towers, very good sound.

The remote is supposed to come in next day air, all preprogrammed, except for the cable box.

Its going to take some time learning everything, but isn't that the fun part?

The sales guy at American said channel 4 and 12 both going HD tomorrow, is this correct?

Both 4(504) and 12(512) are on TWC/Milwaukee now. 4 was on yesterday and 12 today. http://www.milwaukeehdtv.org/ubb/smile.gif

It came with the system, Amarican TV. I hope it will be arriveing today or tommarow.

I just found that out about both being on, the only problem is TW says they won't have any HD box's till next week. So I will just have to wait. Lots to do anyway, speaker wire to run, calibrating the surround sound, etc

I don't think I have the receiver hooked up correctly, I think I need to add some more cables somewere as I can't get the on screen menu to come on.

Rees, any chance you could stop by some time? near Medowbrook

Not that I know of. It has been useful to many of us. If I remember correctly, it indicates which stations you should be able to receive with various types of antennae, and the directions of the towers from your home.

Hardly, Check the site out if you are debating ANY OTA TV antenna installation.

Take a look and maybe you'll even see...
