Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that the Pack made it to the playoffs, and THANK YOU Arizona!!!, but why on earth do they have to play on Sunday?
The Saturday games are on ABC and will at least 1 will have a shot of being in HD, instead we have to put up with the low end fox production. I hope it's at least in widescrean.

Wasn't that CBS Packer game against Denver beautiful?
That is how High-Def should be......help me out as a newbie, wasn't that 1080i?
Too bad both FOX and our local affiliate fox 6 can't put something like that together.

alas I don't think you will get much love here for CBS HD games... 58 over compresses the signal to fit 41 and 63 on the sub-channels. There are many instances where it looks less than beautiful..
One would hope that they shut down one or both sub-channels for the superbowl, but I wouldn't count on it.....

They gave pretty good bandwidth I thought. If you looked at 1-2 during the game, it was really struggling. That's a good sign. Either way, it looked a LOT better than Faux Widescreen.

I did not notice a picture quality difference from 58-1 compared to Directv HD game (also packers). I don't know how much D* compresses this channel but both looked pretty good to me.
This is the first Lambeau home game I have seen in HD. Almost like being there (well not quite that great). I was at the MNF Eagles game.

Is there ANY chance Directtv will broadcast Sunday's Packer game in HD for NFL Ticket Customers? I don't know what their rules are. Sunday's Packer game was broadcast in HD on Channel 71 (NFL Ticket). Previous weeks they were not. What are the rules that determine this? And will the rules change at all for the playoffs?

Sunday Ticket is a regular season package only, meant to show out of area games. Since each playoff game is shown on a national basis, there are no out of area games & therefore no need for Sunday Ticket.

Unfortunately not.
Directv simulcasts one game in HD per week. They pick up and broadcast the feed from the CBS HD game of the week. Last week that was the denver vs. green bay game. CBS and Directv do not apply blackout rules to those games.
This weeks playoff game is on Fox which does not do HD yet (hopefully in 2004 football) they only do 480p widescreen. Looks like the only way you will get an enhanced picture is 1st by fox doing the game in 480p widescreen and then being able to receive the signal either on cable if you get it or OTA if you live within 1 block of the fox 6 tower. Directv does broadcast the Fox games on 71 & 72 in 480p but they stick the blackout rules on these games so you would not get them in the Wisconsin market.
To bad Green Bay isn't playing on Saturday where ABC is doing both games in HD(these are ABC only 2 playoff games). CBS is also doing the Sunday games as well as all of their AFC playoff games including the Super bowl in HD
Hope this helps,

Yeah.. it's kind of a bummer that every game except the Packer game will be in actual HD this weekend!
Fox hasn't confirmed that the Packer game will at least be in Widescreen ED, but I'd be suprised if it wasn't. Since midseason, there's only been one Packer game in regular crappy 4:3 analog... Although the best ones have been the HD on ESPN, CBS and ABC there have been a bunch in ED Widescreen...It's been worth the extra $6 per month TWC is charging me for the HD Locals.

Thanks for the quick replies. How about this angle: Is anyone in the north or western suburbs able to get FOX from Madison or Green Bay OTA? How strong are their signals?

I'm getting a perfect signal form Chicago, here in Racine. Its actually at 58% but no drops.

Fox 11 DT out of Madison is actually fairly strong, but it really doesn't matter - Sinclair Broadcasting owns it and they broadcast NO HD or widescreen - period.

I feel stupid. I bought an HD ready set with the thought that I'd see everything in HD (all primetime shows and games). Guess I wasn't as far behind in the electronics world as I thought.

FOX playoff games will be in 16:9 widescreen 480p.

smack - you didn't notice much of a difference between DirecTV and 58-1 because they both give the channel about the same amount of bandwidth.. ~15Mbps. 58-1 does it so they can fit two extra subchannels in there, DirecTV does it so they can fit 2 HD channels per transponder.
Alas our only hope of ever seeing an uncompressed CBS is if/when 58 feeds TWC with fiber... which pretty much sucks **** for those of us grabbing the signal OTA. we're just pretty much always screwed.. :bang:

I watched the Fox OTA 33D of the rams panther game today and was surprised how good it was. I have a dish 811 HD receiver and a sammy DLP. The broadcast was perfect and boy what a game. I live 4 miles from the tower and get 80% from a mid sized roof antenna. Installed the antenna Wednesday just for the Packer game against the Eagles. I'm glad the rams kicked the can. Do not want to see number 4 play in the RC dome if we win sunday.
go packers

widescreen 480p isn't much better than Regualar 4:3.
If fact I think it looks too FUZZY when pan back and show the whole field. (which is most of the game).
Close ups is really the only "ok" view for 480p.
