Why does TW make certain channels scrambled in Milwaukee like 3 and 9, while others are fine? TBS is one of the best basic channels and you need a box to get it.

I get ch. 3 TBS just fine with my analog TV set. Nothing is scrambled. Ch. 9 WGN Superstation version comes in also fine, NOT scrambled at all. Unless yer only paying for basic cable. Maybe Ch. 3 TBS and ch. 9 WGN aren't part of the Basic Cable service?
I should know since I pay for the cable into the house.

I haven't been a TWC sub for a while, but if I recall correctly, wasn't TBS, WGN and E! special channels that had to be added individually? I think they were charging like $.75 per channel 3 years ago. But I don't think that has anything to do with receiving the analog signal unscrambled without a box.
Maybe the scrambling/non-scrambling of certain channels goes back to the days of Viacom. When I was in Greenfield, Viacom did not scramble the lower tier channels and TWC left it that way when they took over. However, when I moved into Milwaukee, some of those same channels were scrambled. Different TWC service for different areas.

I have just the bare basic cable here in Milwaukee, I don't get ch's 3, 9, or 27. While my parents in West Allis, who also have the bare basic cable, DO get those channels. When I had the cable box from TWC, I did get those channels however...

There once used to be a OTA channel 3 in Milwaukee. That was when WTMJ-TV used to broadcast on ch. 3. I wouldn't remember since it was way before my time.

Could it be that these channels occaisonaly show live sports,(NBA nd MLB) that may require being blacked out in certain areas.
I have TWC and I dont pay extra for the but i do have the digital value package for all the HD stuff.

I'm on basic cable in Greenfield and I get 3 (TBS I think) and 9 (WGN). The only station that's scrambled for me is 27 (E!). When I lived downtown, I also got 27 clearly.

Why not call TW and ask them.

I asked TW, all the customer service rep said was. "Sir, those channels are pay channels in Milwaukee and you need a box to receive them" When I asked why they were not pay channels in other TW markets, she had no response.

seems like the "other markets" get all the joy - including extra hd stuff :(
