Heres a blurb from the latest CEA press release on the matter:
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) said that July 2002 factory-to-dealer unit sales for digital television (DTV) products rose 81 percent compared to the same period in 2001 representing a 66 percent dollar sales increase.
DTV product sales for July 2002, which sold at an average price of $1,733, totaled 213,159 units and $369,311,697. CEA also released stand-alone set-top box figures for the first seven months of the year, which totaled 44,291 units and $20,152,689. The average set-top box price was $455. Comparatively, set-top box unit sales during the same period in 2001 totaled 79,101 units.
CEA projects that 2.1 million DTV products - including integrated sets and displays - will be sold in 2002, 4 million in 2003, 5.4 million in 2004, 8 million in 2005 and 10.5 million in 2006.
======
Notice the lower STB (set top box) figure is lower for 2002 than 2001. In my opinion, that merely reflects not being able to find any to buy. I know I can't find any worth buying. (ie RCA DTC100)
